CASE STUDY: Salford City Council

Power 1 completed the Salford City Council LED Retrofit which was awarded to us in 2012.

> Contract value (£): £2 million

> Contract Start Date: 2012

> Contract End Date: 2014

This was carried out for Urban Vison Partnership which was a JV between Capita, Salford City Council and Galliford Try.   We replaced 23,000 LED lanterns over a period of achieving a run rate of 500 per week. This project involved the removal of 23,000 and disposal of the existing lighting stock and replacement with LED Lighting, in what was the first major LED Retrofit Project in the UK.

The Contract also required the removal and replacement of several thousand, life expired column stock. The contract duration for this design and construct scheme was 24 months, of which the main installation took place over a 20 month period.

The work was delivered with our own in house HEA / HERS accredited workforce, with our direct plant and machinery. Power1 also commit to provide adequate project management staff and supervision to our clients on all our Street Lighting Projects.

Power 1 Group worked collaboratively with the client and the technical providers at Thorn Lighting and Philips, to ensure the efficient delivery, of what was at the time a technically challenging project.

> Power 1 Group added value to the contract in several ways by taking an active role in the pre planning stage, working with Urban Vision to plan deliveries, check stock, create quarantine zones and processes for any defective stock, and arranged return to the supplier.

> Worked collaboratively to retain existing stock for maintenance purposes during the lifecycle of the retro fit project, thus saving the authority any further expenditure on replacements to knock down and emergency repairs.

The installation contract to available works was completed on time and within budget. There was a small percentage of stock which fell outside of the main contract duration, due to access issues at main contract level. Again Power 1 worked collaboratively to ensure these were carried out in an efficient manner when available.

CASE STUDY: Northumberland County Council

We were awarded Northumberland County Council “Invest to Save” LED retrofit in January 2015 and mobilised here on March 2015. This is a £9million contract involving 46,500 LED lantern retrofits and 16,500 new column installations including the subsequent DNO works with all associated civils and electrical work. Contract duration is 92 weeks and Power 1 ‘s contract is with main contractor Galliford Try.

> Contract value (£): £9 million

> Contract Start Date: March 2015

> Contract End Date: December 2016

Power 1 are delivering all site works via own internal trained and HEA / HERS / NERS workforce and via specialist subcontractors.

GallifordTry have ultimate Design and Build responsibility for the Contract, and there is a need to work collaboratively with the Designers and Suppliers to ensure workload requirements are met, and the correct installations are carried out.

Power 1 are responsible for planning and approval of all NRSWA opening and closure notices, and appropriate Traffic Management.

Through the company’s ICP accreditation Power1 also work closely with the local DNO, in this instance Northern Power Grid and Scottish Power Energy Networks, along with our specialist Subcontractors.

At present we have in excess of 30 staff and operatives on site delivering the works.

Power1 also commit to provide adequate project management staff and supervision to our clients on all our Street Lighting Projects.

Power 1 Group added value to the contract in several ways:

> Take an active role in the pre planning stage, working with GallifordTry to identify appropriate facilities and plan deliveries, check stock, create quarantine zones and processes for any defective stock, and arranged return to the supplier.

> Work collaboratively to retain existing stock for maintenance purposes during the lifecycle of the retro fit project, thus saving the authority any further expenditure on replacements to knock down and emergency repairs.

Innovation provided on the contract was to utilise hand held devices giving Power1 Group direct access to Northumberland CC’s Inventory, which is automatically updated when installations are completed. Thus enabling energy savings to be realised far quicker.
